The Mississippi Fair and its new $20 million fairgrounds plan will be one of the first to receive an official state grant, the school district announced Friday.
The $20-million plan includes $4 million for a new fairgrounds, a $1.3 million new playground and $5 million for expanded student parking.
It also includes $3 million for “a new indoor swimming pool and indoor volleyball facility.”
The plan is part of the larger plan for Mississippi, which received an $11 million grant from the state of Mississippi for a public works program that included a new water fountain and a new tennis court.
The state is hoping the $20 billion plan will attract more money to help build the state’s parks and recreation system.
The plan also calls for adding about 200,000 square feet of indoor spaces to the state parks system.
