Danbury, Connecticut – Danbury Fair Mall owner Danbury-based Mooney & Co. Inc. has been fired by the city of Danbury after a city council meeting Tuesday night passed a resolution to fire him over an alleged sexual harassment claim.
The council voted 6-1 to remove him from his role as the owner of the mall’s main store and replace him with a different person.
The council voted unanimously to remove Mooney, the first-ever woman to be removed from the Mall of Danes main store after an election, after the allegations of sexual harassment against her surfaced in a news report.
Council member Susan Keesler-Snyder told the council she was disappointed to hear the council vote against Mooney.
She said she was confident she would win a vote of confidence and would then take up the matter with Mayor Robert Rizzo, the city attorney and city attorney general’s office.
“It’s a shame, but I understand,” said Keeslers spokeswoman Lisa Koester.
“It’s not our job to keep people from the public and we should all have the opportunity to vote on these matters.
I think he made a mistake, but that’s the way it is.”
The council members did not say what the decision would be.
